Un Chau Hostel - Care-Centered, Shaping Futures
At Un Chau Hostel, we not only provide a safe living environment but are also committed to creating a family atmosphere filled with love, understanding, and support. We believe that through professional guidance, enriching activities, and warm care, every young person can find stability here, restart their journey, and move toward a brighter future.
Our Mission and Beliefs:
Un Chau Hostel is dedicated to creating a warm and safe haven for youth aged 12 to 18. We firmly believe that every individual is unique, worthy of respect, and possesses limitless potential for growth. Our mission is to foster a caring and healthy environment that nurtures good character in youth, guiding them to discover their own potential and paving the way for their future.
Service Objectives:
- To provide a safe, stable, and nurturing residence for youth facing developmental challenges, promoting their physical and mental well-being.
- To cultivate self-care skills, social skills, and problem-solving abilities in young people.
- To assist youth in exploring, understanding, and developing their potential, fostering self-confidence and a positive self-image.
- To help youth rebuild their confidence and prepare for reintegration into their families or society.
- To encourage youth to connect with, serve, and give back to the community.
Our Service Features:
- Relationship-Based Care: We establish positive, trusting relationships that provide emotional support and guidance. We help youth rebuild trust in adults, facilitating their growth, healing, and development in a safe and stable environment, enhancing their confidence and social skills.
- Diverse Care Model: By combining the warmth of a small home with the advantages of communal living, we create a "big family" atmosphere. Through daily interactions, we cultivate the self-discipline, sense of responsibility, and social skills of youth, laying the foundation for independent living in the future.
- Personalized Counseling and Support: We provide case counseling and growth support tailored to each youth's needs. Through the Agency-Based Professional Support Services (ABPSS), we offer group training for residents with special needs, with in-depth counseling services provided by clinical psychologists and dedicated case social workers.
- Comprehensive Life Skills Training: We teach practical skills such as self-management, life skills, social skills, and emotional regulation, allowing youth to practice these skills in their hostel life and develop independence.
- Enriching Activities and Experiences: We offer a variety of learning and experiential opportunities, including therapeutic activities, growth groups, outdoor activities, interest cultivation, career planning, volunteer services, and national security education.
- Family Support Network: We establish a parent support network, regularly organizing information-sharing sessions and group activities to promote connections between parents and the hostel, jointly witnessing and supporting the growth of youth, and preparing for their future reintegration into families.
- Community Connection and Participation: We provide open accommodation services and work closely with various social service units in the Tsing Yi area. We encourage youth to utilize community facilities, participate in community activities, and organize volunteer teams to serve the community, fostering a sense of social responsibility and a spirit of giving back.
Application for Services
Parents can apply for services through social welfare department units, family service centers of non-governmental organizations, school social workers, youth outreach social work teams, or integrated youth service centers. All applications must be arranged through the Central Referral System for Children's Residential Services (CRSRC) of the social welfare department. After receiving an application, a social worker from the hostel will meet with the applicant and their parents or guardians for an interview. Suitable candidates will be promptly assisted in the admission process.
Discharge from Services
If the needs and issues of a resident youth are resolved or improved, or if parents request discharge from services with the agreement of the referring social worker, service user, their parents or guardians, and hostel social workers, this can be arranged. If the behavior of a service user poses a danger to other residents or staff, or if they repeatedly violate hostel rules, the hostel reserves the right to terminate their services to ensure the safety and well-being of other residents.
Fees
Accommodation and meal costs are fully subsidized. Parents or guardians are only responsible for the resident's pocket money for daily expenses, including transportation to school, lunch outings, daily necessities, learning supplies, and medical fees when necessary. These expenses aim to cultivate the resident's financial management skills while ensuring their basic needs are met.
